The Specials CD & DVD
Coventry lads release best of album
The Specials 'Best Of' CD and DVD is out on 31 March and features all of the hits and videos from their first hit single 'Gangsters' and 'Too Much Too Young' – a pro-contraception song which was banned by the BBC but still hit the no. 1 spot.
The band started in 1977 and was originally called the Coventry Automatics and later the Special A.K.A. by Jerry Dammers with Terry Hall, Lynval Golding, Neville Staples, Roddy Radiation, Sir Horace Gentleman and John Bradbury.
The album also includes 'Ghost Town' - released amid race-related unemployment riots, as well as the latter singles 'Racist Friend' and 'Free Nelson Mandela'.
Jerry Dammers started his own label, 2-Tone, on which the Specials albums and singles were released. It was named for its multiracial outlook and also after the two-tone suits worn by the rude-boys.
‘The Best Of’ album is released on 31 March
