In Memory Of John Peel

Peels memory celebrated in tribute single and nationwide gigs

'Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)?'
Released 21st November 2005

The Song

Sir Elton John, Roger Daltry, Robert Plant, The Datsuns, The Furureheads and El Presidente have got together for a very sepcial collaboration.  As artist who were championed by John early and throughout their careers, they recorded a tribute version of the Buzzcoks classic track 'Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)?'.

The proceeds from the single will be donated to Amnesty International, one of John Peel’s favourite charities, and a charity that Sir Elton John himself proactively supports.  The BBC will broadcast the radio premier for the John Peel tribute single on Monday 10th October. Radio 1, Radio 2, BBC Radio London, 6Music and all BBC regional stations across the UK will broadcast the single simultaneously at 8.10am.

The Video

Channel 4 has confirmed that they will run the world exclusive premiere of the promo video for the trackon Thursday 13th October  - John Peel Day - at 11.05pm.

The director for the video, Simon Cracknell from Believe Media, who has previously directed video for artists such as Placebo and Turin Brakes, said, “The setting for the video is based on the theme of angst ridden teenagers, with the idea of finding them shut away in their bedrooms listening to Ever Fallen in Love and replicating - through camera-work, art directing and styling - the five decades covered by the various artists performing on this single.

Bloc Party Bassist designs artwork

Gordon Moakes, bassist with Bloc Party said, “The design for the single is quite simple - very Bloc Party - but I wanted it to have some warmth to it, which you don't always get with our sleeves. The single is about John Peel, who we loved, and it's also about Amnesty, so the heart motif fits in nicely with their 'Protect the Human' message. The heart is actually a reference to the original Buzzcocks sleeve, which in turn was inspired by Marcel Duchamp's 'Blue Fluttering Hearts' so I also feel it ties in with the history of the song too".
