Help Future Forests To Plant One Million Trees

The Raft has discovered Future Forests. They help people and business take practical and personal responsibility for their own contribution to global warming. It involves trees. And it’s associated with bands and celebrities from Pink Floyd to Dido and Atomic Kitten.

Climate change is caused by high levels of carbon dioxide (CO2). You’ve heard the scare stories – icebergs breaking down, erratic weather conditions. The situation is serious; and the impacts are now likely to be relatively short term, probably affecting anyone reading this article. Within 25 years, in hot countries there will be severe water shortages for over 5 billion people; and worldwide tens of millions of inhabitants will be flooded out of their homes from heavy rain and sea-level rise. Grim.

But we are all responsible for what’s going on because we all produce CO2 from almost everything we do – driving, cooking, playing CDs. If we are the cause, it stands to reason that we can also be the solution.

Future Forests helps people and companies to measure how much CO2 is produced by an activity, then they help you cut down emissions (like switch to wind energy). Then you can buy a way of ‘offsetting’ or balancing out the remaining CO2.

Trees are a part of that. They naturally absorb CO2 and produce oxygen and wood. Future Forests calculate how much CO2 can be absorbed by what forest cover and when you achieve the balance of output to input, you become Carbon Neutral. So bands and artists  - like Dido, Atomic Kitten, Pink Floyd, UB40 - have been helping to plant trees with Future Forests to re-absorb the CO2 emissions and make their tours and CDs Carbon Neutral. The forests are at sites all over the world – including UK, Mexico and India.

SO WHAT’S ALL THIS GOT TO DO WITH THE RAFT

We’re launching a campaign to get all subscribers to The Raft to plant 1 million trees to soak up greenhouse gas. The idea is to make a BIG statement and show real leadership from the music industry in challenge the issue of global warming. Ahead of the compromises of governments. Ahead of the big polluting companies.

Though the trees can be planted anywhere, Future Forests has identified a great site in Germany, which was a Soviet missile site during the cold war. So there’s an opportunity to replace a symbol of destruction with one of positive growth.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED

We want to encourage you to plant sufficient trees to make something – one aspect of your life Carbon Neutral. Just have a look at the example equations below, click the link and away you go. If you want more in-depth information about Future Forests and global warming click below:

Protection - we do a lot of it these days. Sun cream for our skin, sunglasses for our eyes, condoms for you know where - but do you remember to protect your hearing?

Click to find all the information you need to look after your hearing now so you can enjoy music for years to come

The Raft has discovered The CarbonNeutral Company

They help business, government and individuals to tackle their contribution to climate change. In addition to forestry projects, their work includes carbon emissions reduction, renewable energy and biomass schemes, as well as carbon management and risk consulting

And that can't be a bad thing...
