Jesse McCartney Talks About His 'Beautiful Soul'

This first record ‘She’s Not You’ was probably one of the first songs I have ever wrote, and was the first song which I started writing for my record and it is definitely one of my favourites.

‘Beautiful Soul’, obviously not only the name of the record but also the name of the album, was my first single and actually the first song I recorded when I was fifteen!

Third song which is called ‘Get Your Shine On’ kinda has a Michael Jackson feel to it, definitely very fun. There is like a brass section and a cool production!

‘Take Your Sweet Time’ is the fourth track on the album and it is the first ballad on the album. It is also another one of the first songs I recorded. It is a sweet tune, really pretty and its got a really nice melody.

‘Without You’ is actually a cool song to perform live. When I was touring in the U.S. it was the song I opened with and it really felt like an opener with the bass coming in at the beginning. It was actually the last track I recorded for the record but it was fun I enjoyed recording it.

‘Why Don’t You Kiss Her’ was early on in the game, I think right after ‘Beautiful soul’ we did that. I think we had a bunch of different edits, we did full production, an acoustic edit, and finally we realised that the song needed the bare minimum and I ended up singing that song live just acoustically with two guitars. It’s a another pretty song.

‘That Was Then’ is kinda like a cousin to ‘She’s Not You’ - it’s got the same feel to it, the same beat and fast pace lyrics. And it's definitely melody driven.

‘Come To Me’ is track eight off this record, and it almost has a bluesy vibe to it. It is more of an R&B track which I really enjoyed.

The ninth track on the record is called ‘What’s Your Name’. It is again a very fun upbeat tune, when we play it live we drag it out and make it this huge production and I start playing the drums and then the piano. Whenever we play that song I just think of the live show.

‘Because You Live’ was the third single I released in the States, and it was produced by Desmond Child who has produced Britney, Justin, N’Sync, and Backstreet Boys.

‘Why Is Love So Hard To Find’ has a very kinda snap-of-the-fingers, cool grove... a lot of different harmonies and melodies, a lot of different things going on. It's a fun song to riff on and a fun song to perform live.

‘The Stupid Things’ is probably, after ‘Beautiful Soul’, my favourite track on the album and one of my favourites to perform live with the band. It kinda sounds like this incredible power ballad, my version of it. It was originally recorded by Robin Thick, who is artist in the States and an incredible writer, and he wrote this song.

‘Good Life’ it is pretty self explanatory, just a song about telling everyone to chill out... no need to trip, to be all worried coz life’s good….. Life’s great!

‘Best Day Of My Life’ I think this track was actually added to the European CD. It is one of the first songs I recorded and its about this girl and how she flipped this guy's life upside down.
