She's Young, She's Already Massive Stateside and Now She's Here! Hello Stacie Orrico!

J:  Tell us about the new single ‘More to Life’?

S:  The song basically talks about finding your fulfilment in life and finding what it is that brings you happiness and satisfaction without finding it in all the wrong places.

J:  There’s a fairly strong emotional theme in the song, where does the inspiration for that come from?

S:  Yeah...well I think the most powerful tool you can use to write music is your emotions, and I guess I like to sing songs that have real content.  The majority of the time I do sing from a personal perspective, so I’m singing about something that I’ve gone through, or that I’ve seen a friend go through.  That works best for me.

J:  The song ‘More To Life’ you’re talking about something that people are waiting for...are you waiting for something?

S:  You know, there’s always something you wish you had more of, like for me it would be more time with my family and friends.    I’m so blessed though, I feel like life has given me so much already.  I have a wonderful family, I have friends who love and care about me, and so many great opportunities and experiences; all those things bring me a lot of fulfilment.  Also, my faith helps me.

J: Can you tell us a little about your faith?

S:  Well, I’m a Christian, and I was raised that way.  As I got older it became time for me to make the decision for myself, and I decided that I needed faith in my life.  It’s really the foundation of everything I do and  I don’t know where I would be without it.

J:  How’s that interpreted in the U.S?  Christianity doesn't have a great reputation over here.

S:  Yeah, I think there’s a little bit of bias in America because Christian music is seen to be outdated and boring, which a lot of it is, but I think that more and more people are more open to faith, especially since September 11th.  People started to question their existence and turned to religion.

J:  There’s a track on the album about what happens when you die.  Is that quite a heavy topic for a seventeen year old?

S:  The song's not actually about that, but it is quite a heavy topic.  I suppose it has to come up sometime.

J:  Did Sept 11th have a direct influence on your writing?

S:  In a way yeah; the whole series of events did lead to the writing of the song ‘Instead’.  That was about how people in America and people from all round the world were responding to what happened and how they felt about people from the Middle East, and how all of a sudden there was a stereotype created.
