You might have caught Melissa on her European tour in 2004, as she took in Brussels, Spain, Holland, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Paris and the UK. She was also on tour in the U.S. in July with The Cure.
The tour followed on from the Top 40 success of both Auf der Maur’s debut single ‘Followed The Waves’ and their self-titled album, which was released to an array of critical praise across the board.
Auf der Maur’s live show has also been widely praised with The Guardian announcing, “A versatile force of nature, Auf der Maur visibly wrestles with her desires, while basking in her very own spotlight” and the NME claiming it be “a staggering display of lust and enchantment… Here is a person deliriously in love with music and life, and with enough talent to sustain her momentum.”

“When I was making this album, I didn’t ask myself if it was good or bad,” says Auf der Maur. “I just asked myself, ‘Is this me? Is this honest? Does this sound like my head and heart?’ And in the end, it does. I got to make the album of my dreams.” Says Melissa Auf Der Maur of her brand new self titled debut album.
“Followed the Waves,” the first song recorded for the album, is a powerful and haunted siren call, with heavy walls of guitar and ethereal choruses. Elsewhere, the hushed whisper that kicks off “Lightning is My Girl” gives way to an army of guitars -- tangled webs of dissonance, powerful harmonies, electric soundscapes -- with sultry and subzero vocals. And “Taste You” is deceptively sweet-sounding, but completely ravenous at its heart.
