In March 2000 ADF released its third album, Community Music, named after the place where the group got its start, and a tribute to its ethnically and culturally mixed public. With the addition of strings and brass, this album came as a surprise to audiences expecting a more "punk jungle" sound.
Following a major European tour, a side trip to Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand, and an inaugural tour of Japan, ADF gained definitive recognition for its extraordinary stage performances. In France, for the first time, ADF expanded its onstage roster, with the addition, notably, of drummer Rocky Singh (met in Toronto), the MCs Aktarvata and Spex from The Invasian?a group trained under the ADFED program?and dhol-player Pritpal Rajput. These musicians are now permanent members of the group.
In March 2001 ADF composed the original soundtrack for the film La Haine (Hate), and performed it live during the "Only Connect" season at London's Barbican Theatre. This performance, which won unstinted praise from the critics, gave ADF a chance to promote its purely musical talent, often overshadowed by its political commitment.
During an April 2001 trip to Brazil, organized by the British Council, ADF began its first tour during which group members ran workshops for young people and sound systems. Spex and Aktarvata drew on this ADFED experience to demonstrate the MPC 2000 sequencer. This tour, on which ADF shared the billing with outstanding Brazilian groups such as Orappa, Nacao Zumbi, and Afroreggae, was extremely successful, and had a huge influence on the members of ADF, who were fascinated by the passion and ingenuity of the musicians they encountered. In the autumn, after breaking with London Records, ADF?which had been working on a new album since the spring?immediately signed a contract with Labels/Virgin France.
In early 2002 Adrian Sherwood, for many years an ADF inspiration, joined the group as executive producer for their new album. Sherwood brought in additional producers and programmers, such as Jaswad, to update some of the group's rhythms and sounds. The new album is scheduled for release in 2003.
