Very much a product of Manchester's Northern Quarter, Alfie made their name in the cafes and bars which network the area. As 2000 wore on their maverick talent became locally well appreciated, and Alfie were soon signed to the burgeoning Twisted Nerve label and also collaborated heavily on the musical arrangement on Badly Drawn Boy's first album. They soon found their own voice however in Lee Gorton; a charming, self-effacing rogue with a glint in his eye and a grin that lit up the stage.

During 2000 Alfie dropped some very limited vinyl EPs before releasing their highly acclaimed debut album, 'If You Happy With You Need Do Nothing'. They then toured the country with the likes of Coldplay and Embrace, before finishing their second album, 2001's 'A Word In Your Ear'.

The band signed to Regal in early 2003 and released their third album, Do You Imagine Things? in September, which Uncut Magazine described as being an album that “Distils Barrett –era Floyd, Flaming Lips and the psychedelic headspin of the West Coast Pop Art Experimental band into a flurry of brass, strings and folk choir harmonies. A great leap forward.” Mojo also enthused it to be “sunshine pop from rainy Manchester, couched in clotted harmonies.” They ended 2003 supporting one of their favourite bands the Flaming Lips.

Alfie are: Lee Gorton - vocals, Ian Smith - guitar, Matt Mcgeever - cello, Sam Morris - bass and Sean Kelly - drums
